Insurance Terms To Know

Coinsurance

After you've met your deductible, coinsurance is the percentage of costs you share with your insurance company for a covered healthcare service.


 

Copay

A fixed amount you pay for a covered healthcare service at the time of your visit. The copay amount varies depending on the service and is often separate from your deductible
and coinsurance.
 

Deductible

The amount you must pay out-of-pocket for covered healthcare services before your insurance company begins to pay its share.

Preventive care

Routine healthcare services that help prevent illness or detect health problems early. Preventive care is often fully covered by insurance, meaning you won’t have to pay out-of-pocket for these services.
 

Superbill

A detailed receipt we give patients to submit for reimbursement if they see us out-of-network.



 

Out of pocket maximum

The maximum amount you pay during a policy year for covered healthcare services, including deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. After you reach this limit, your insurance covers 100% of the costs for covered services for
the rest of the year.
